TV Tower

|
Ceremoniously opened in 1980 on "Soviet Revolution Day" (Nov. 7), Tallinn's TV tower is 314 metres high - an impressive and imposing piece of Soviet engineering. The observation deck at 170 metres is the highest in the Nordic countries, and on a good day visitors are able to see clear across the Gulf of Finland to their neighbor on the other side. On a not-so-clear day, you'll mostly be gazing at the Lasnamae suburb of Tallinn. Still, you might a giddy kick out of the lift ride and your subsequent expulsion from it into a world whose people and atmosphere seem to have changed little since 1980. Tickets are 50kr and there's a restaurant for those that want to really soak up the view. |
