Bridgettine Convent

This 15th century convent on the banks of the Pirita river makes for one of Tallinn's more fascinating historic sites. Consecrated in 1436, the convent housed both Bridgettine monks and nuns, before a siege by Ivan the Terrible in 1577 left the convent in ruins. What remains today is the towering gable and walls of the main hall, in addition to some foundations and cellars. A park surrounds the picturesque site, which hosts various concerts and a festival each August, as well as regular mass services. To get there, take bus 1, 8, 34 or 38 to the Pirita stop. 20kr.
