KUMU Art Museum website

A mere seventy six years after its conception the Kumu Art Museum has finally opened! Since 1930 a few trifling setbacks have repeatedly delayed the museum's construction, such as a Second World War, fifty odd years of Communism, a distinct lack of funds and an old geezer who refused to sell his shed (he still lives there now!). At last though the impressive limestone and glass design, by Finnish architect Pekka Vapaavuori, has been built and the artefacts moved in. Finally Estonia has the shrine to national art that it has long dreamed of - 5000 square metres of space displaying three centuries of work.
