Starting life as 'The Dancing Paris' nightclub back in 1936, the venue, now known as Gloria, quickly became synonymous with the high life. Tallinn's movers and shakers, from politicians to social gadflies, would while away many an hour amidst the club's decadent pre-war finery. After the war different theories may have been expounded over dinner, but the revelry continued. Right into the 21st Century Gloria still rates as one of the capital's very best restaurants, with celebrated gastronome Dmitri Demjanov at the helm. Even more famous than the cuisine though is the story that this is where Hilary Clinton took on John McCain in a drinking competition - and won. |
