TALLINN – Estonian President Arnold Ruutel hinted that he would not run for a second term during a recent interview with Kanal 2’s evening news.

“We have been doing this work for quite a long time already,” Ruutel said. “I think it is necessary to give younger people a chance.”

Ingrid Ruutel, the president’s wife, added that she would be “very happy if a president could be found whom it would be possible to support.”

Chairman of the People’s Union Villu Reiljan, however, said he had no information about whether Ruutel would run or not in this fall’s elections. He added that Ruutel would inform him of the decision when certain.
