Finnish pensioners seem to be especially attracted to Estonian alcohol.
According to a study by the Federation of Finnish Commerce most of the retired people traveling to Tallinn or other places within the Baltic county bring back booze in large quantities. The deciding reason is, of course, the price difference. As alcoholic beverages are highly taxed in Finland, the prices at the southern neighbor are about a third lower.
Travel itineraries to Estonia are generally alcohol-driven anyway, as the average Finn will bring back a reasonable quantity of spirits. However pensioners far outpace the average.
A suggested explanation why exactly pensioners tend to take home more alcohol than on average is because they more often take part in package tours by bus, which provides them with an opportunity to stash a lot more.
